Ikageng is a Tswana word meaning, ‘self- improvement’. The organization stands for the protection and empowerment of children, giving them confidence and solidifying their capacity to be the best that they can be. Ikageng is a community-based welfare organization founded in 2001; the organisation is situated in Orlando West Soweto, and cares for O.V.C.Y (orphaned, vulnerable children and youth) in Soweto, through the provision of their four main programmes; psychosocial support, educational support; nutritional support and health support. The organisation was established 15 years ago; because the country and the world in general, were confronted with the challenge of HIV/AIDS pandemic. This in turn had more chronic ripple effects on the lives of many people, particularly children and young adults in Soweto.
