Sweetwaters Community Centre Phase 4 Overview
- The Community Centre is designed to host iThemba Project’s thriving and fully-funded programs and to create the capacity to expand the programs that have become overcrowded. We currently rely on the kindness of families to open their homes or schools to lend classrooms to host activities. Sadly, this limits the number of children who can participate in the programs. We envision the Community Centre to be a meeting place that spreads hope to the community, a place that empowers people, a place where people could come to learn new skills. Completing the Centre will gradually build up to impact over 500 young people weekly. This will involve direct and indirect contact through the development of teachers, parents and young adults we come into contact with. To truly make an impact in the community, we desperately need to complete the Community Centre.
- By hiring and training local community members, many who are currently unemployed, we are not only saving on employment costs, but we are empowering and up-skilling volunteers so that by the end of the project these men and women will have developed valuable skills and motivation to accomplish greater things. The bulk of the donation will be to cover the labour costs of the team that will be doing the construction for Phase 4.
